Viagra Boys – Welfare Jazz

Today Viagra Boys release Welfare Jazz as the worthy follow-up of debut album Street Worms, which was released in 2018, and their EP Common Sense which saw the light of day last year. The title is meant ironically and makes fun of the subsidies for Jazz from the Swedish government. The irony is also the strongest weapon of the band. LISTEN THIS WEEK:

Every week we highlight a few songs that you should absolutely listen to. In week 1 these are:

Rats on Rafts – Fragments

Genre: new wave/ post punk
FFO: Franz Ferdinand, Bombay, Moss
Why? This song is something else. The band takes its listener on a roller coaster that goes from small and relaxing to grand, waltzing and compelling melodies.

Ziggy Splynt – Belle the Beast

Genre: alternative rock
FFO: The Hazzah, The Stangs
Why? It’s a song with deliciously unpolished guitar lines and alternating vocals, Ziggy Splynt launches big and without excuses.

Personal Trainer – Muscle Memory

Genre: indie
FFO: Pip Blom, Sports Team
Why? Spoken vocals, dissonant chords, an unravelling chorus and it all being elaborated fiercely make this an intriguing track.

You can find these songs, together with other recommendations, in our CHAOTIC TWENTY playlist:
